The department has close collaborations with the hydrocarbon industry, providing access to state-of-the-art data and technology, and hosts the Arctic Marine Geology and Geophysics (AMGG) PhD Research School in collaboration with the Geological Survey of Norway, the Norwegian Polar Institute and the University Centre of Svalbard (UNIS). This research school, with 25 PhD students and 12 Postdoctoral fellows is a training environment for PhD candidates in the scientific fields of Arctic palaeoclimate, resources and environments. AMGG is a partner of the Norwegian National research schools in Climate Dynamics (ResClim) and in Petroleum Science (NFIP), helping coordinating teaching, seminars and conferences, and providing meeting places for PhD students and their supervisors. The department’s access to an ice-going research vessel provides an attractive platform for seagoing research activities in the Arctic.
